How do we interact with the place in which we live?

In this all new course, you will have the opportunity to truly delve into the place we call home. Place Based Social Studies is all about Prince George, but the skills you gain can be applied to any place around the world. Combining Geography, Outdoor Education, Anthropology, and History, this course will give you a better understanding of where we are.

A Song of Ice and Rivers
​
What forces have shaped our landscape? How do geological processes occur? What evidence do such processes leave behind, long after the events themselves? What process has had the greatest impact on our local landscape?
’En Cha Huná
​
What plant species are common in our region? What factors have allowed these plants to survive? How are animals able to live in the North? What adaptations have given them an increased likelihood of survival?
Two Worlds Brought Together
​
How have Indigenous people lived in the North for thousands of years? What traditions are important to local Indigenous cultures? How did Indigenous communities and European settlers interact? What collective memories were created in this place?
A Bright Northern Future
​
How has the Prince George/Lheidli T'enneh region changed in the past 100 years? What steps has Prince George taken to grow beyond a small resource town? How have different immigrant groups contributed to a growing community? How have relations with Indigenous peoples changed? Where will Prince George be in 100 years?
